LOCAL MARKETS

Our region is blessed with several delightful local markets, all offering fresh local produce and regional delicacies. Our personal favourite is the one in Niort, which was voted the ‘most beautiful market in France’ (2024). It offers both a large indoor market (bakeries, meat, seafood, cheese, bread, wine) and a large outdoor market featuring a variety of local and seasonal produce. The best times to visit are Thursday and Saturday mornings, which are the most vibrant with all stores open. If you only visit one market during your stay, this should be the one! May we suggest you buy your oysters here, a perfect delicacy to take home for an evening appetiser along with a glass of wine. After the market, be sure to take advantage of a stroll around the historic old town of Niort, one of France’s best kept secrets!
